Our faculty is drawn from the digital media industry, with over 30 years of experience working on a variety of international, national, and local projects. In addition to their professional work, they also have attended some of the country’s top digital media graduate programs, including The School of Visual Arts, Pratt Institute.
John J. Miralles, MFA
Director of Animation & Visual Effects Program
As the director of LSU Shreveport’s Animation and Visual Effects program, John draws on his 15 years in the entertainment computer graphics field, with a specialization in advanced feature film compositing, to guide the growing program. John has worked on Animated and Visual Effects features all over North America.
As a New York City based Flame Artist, John’s wide range of broadcast clients have included, Viacom, MTV/VH1 Networks, Warner-Lambert, Pfizer, BAT, and Sauza and he has worked on feature film projects for studios including: Walt Disney Features, Warner Brothers, Imax, New Line, Lions gate and Walden Media among others.
John holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Master of Fine Arts in Computer Art degrees, from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Professional in Residence, AVE Instructor
Raffaele has over 20 years of experience in the Animation field and is an expert in 3D Character Setup. He has worked for Dream Works as a Character Setup Technical Director, Paramount/Animation Studio as a Character Setup Supervisor, Rhythm and Hues as a Lighting Technical Director, Digital Domain as a Character Setup Technical Director as well as many other companies. He has done research at Lucent Bell Labs for facial control systems for 3D avatars.
Raffaele has earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Fine Arts in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts.
Director of Online Learning & Faculty Development / Instructor of Fine Arts
Allen Garcie is a Shreveport-based educator, trainer, photographer, and graphic designer with over 15 years of combined professional and teaching experience in the field of design. In his career, he has received national recognition and several national awards, as well as multiple ADDY advertising awards, for his designs. He also maintains multiple industry-level certifications as an Adobe Certified Expert, an Adobe Certified Instructor, an Adobe Certified Associate in Visual Communication, and others.
Allen holds Master’s Degrees in both Education and Graphic Communications from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from LSU Shreveport.
Greg’s feature film was as a digital composite artist on Robert Rodriguez’s The Faculty. He quickly gained skill and experience by working as a digital compositor on multiple films, including, but not limited to: Sin City, Mr. Deeds, Spider Man II and The Last Mimzy. Greg expanded his skill set by working as a Lightwave 3D animator, a Digital Fusion Compositor and an On-Set Visual Effects Supervisor for Highlander: Endgame. He honed his compositing skills as one of two lead compositors on the interactive experience Star Trek: The Experience- 3D Borg Invasion. Greg has produced quality film, television, and interactive visual effects for such clients as Warner Brothers, Dimension Films, New Line and BRC Imagination Arts.
Greg earned a Bachelor of Arts in degree in Journalism from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.
